What Masonic Education Should Be

Masonic Education should be interesting, educational and engaging. Everyone should feel that their time at lodge was well spent.

Interesting, educational and engaging Masonic education, comes from time spent studying a subject that really interests you.

Masonic education, shouldn’t be a half-assed attempt at filling space in the lodge because brothers think that the lodge should have Masonic education. It shouldn’t be, someone reading an article or a couple of chapters in a book and pulling out some quotes to discuss a subject that they know little or nothing about.

Masonic education should include a visual presentation and a handout (given at the end of the presentation or brothers will just start reading it during the presentation)

Masonic education shouldn’t be a brother standing in front of the group reading a paper they wrote.

Masonic education should be interactive with the presenter using group participation to make a point(s). I used to have the lodge meditate on symbols in some of my presentations and sometimes created mood lighting. You don’t need to get this elaborate but it does make for an impactful evening.

The speaker should control the group and not let them fire away questions during the presentation. Tell them to hold their questions for the end of the presentation. If a couple of brothers start having a conversation during your presentation, just stop, look in their direction and wait until they are finished before proceeding.

Everyone in the lodge should be encouraged to participate in Masonic education on some level. What happened to the Trivium in U.S. lodges? Shouldn’t the classical Liberal Arts of Grammar, Logic, & Rhetoric still be encouraged and taught?

Every Master Mason should get a copy of the Trivium: The Classical Liberal Arts of Grammar, Logic, & Rhetoric and not only read it but learn it and use it. The Lodge should be the perfect place to test these skills. Are we not still striving to make a man a better man?

If you like what I’m doing on Masonic Enlightenment, please tell other brothers and other men who might be interested in Freemasonry about it.

Feel free to use my articles and suggestions for Masonic education at your lodge.

I’m one guy, building an online esoteric, occult, Masonic Temple of knowledge and education, which everyone can participate in, so your help is greatly appreciated.
