Friedrich Nietzsche’s Übermensch Or Superman And Freemasonry

By reading Nietzsche, thinking and absorbing what he’s saying and looking at your life and the world around you today, your perspective and beliefs on life may be changed in a very positive Masonic way. Personally, Nietzsche has helped me to understand who I AM, Why I’m Here and figure out My Life’s Purpose. At the end of the excellent BBC documentary,”Genius of the Modern World – Friedrich Nietzsche” (posted below), you will understand why Nietzsche’s philosophical ideas are so important in today’s world and in Freemasonry. Please watch the short video below and then let’s examine Friedrich Nietzsche’s idea of the Übermensch or superman and how it aligns with being a Master Mason.

Nietzsche and Morality: The Higher Man and The Herd

“What is great in man is that he is a bridge and not an end.” ~ Friedrich Nietzsche

This is not an article about blindly embracing Nietzsche’s philosophy and ideas but using them to transform yourself into the unique, higher human being that you are. There is and will only ever be one you in this world. Therefore, why not use the minds of great free thinkers and free spirits like Nietzsche and others, to help expand our own knowledge and world views on life. I don’t believe we are here to become a second-hand version of someone else or spend or spend our life following a herd. We are here to free ourselves from the lower heard and embrace our individualism reaching our full potential. Everything in nature strives to reach its full potential and flourish despite its environment.

I think the most basic idea of becoming a Master Mason is to seek light and become what Nietzsche refers to as the Übermensch or superman. Nietzsche was not a Freemason but many of his ideas are Masonic. This is more important than ever in today’s world when our minds are constantly being bombarded with media propaganda, our bodies with junk food and information overload is assaulting and killing individualism and creativity. Lots of herds are being created, especially in the U.S., and many are eager to follow and adapt the beliefs and ideas of the herd. At the same time, the corporate, political and media masters pull the strings. The vibrations of the herd masters to the masses is one of hatred, intolerance, and fear under the disguise of love, peace, and change. These negative vibrations, along with mass propaganda, have worked well in the past and with the rise of the Internet and social media, are being played to perfection.

“The snake which cannot cast its skin has to die. As well the minds which are prevented from changing their opinions; they cease to be mind.” ~ Friedrich Nietzsche

On a personal note, I got caught up in the distraction and the propaganda. It wasn’t hard to do in 2016 with the U.S. political and media circus of insanity that was created. Like many, I allowed the media to start thinking for me. This website and many other serial entrepreneurial businesses are the results of tearing myself away from the hypnotic trance of the media and breaking free from the lower level negative herd of victimization.

As a Master Mason, I don’t believe I went through a resurrection process of gaining and seeking light to fall back asleep in the world and become part of the lower herd and it’s dumbed down victimization mindset. A Master Mason is a builder, building internal and external temples. A free thinker, seeking light and using the light of past and present free thinkers to enhance individualism and creativity. A Master Mason is Übermensch or superman and does not follow a herd but leads himself away from the distraction and propaganda to create something that not only benefits himself but everyone and everything as well.

Since there are many people who incorrectly associate Friedrich Nietzsche‘s ideas with Hilter and the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, as well as a book called The Will to Power, I’ve added an excellent BBC video below that accurately portrays Nietzsche’s life and work. If anyone is interested in learning more about Friedrich Nietzsche and his ideas, which I feel are more relevant today than ever before, I included a couple of great books.

“One must be a sea, to receive a polluted stream without becoming impure.” ~ Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra

Genius of the Modern World – Friedrich Nietzsche

Basic Writings of Nietzsche

It is a definitive guide to the full range of Nietzsche’s thought. … Basic Writings of Nietzsche gathers the complete texts of five of Nietzsche’s most important works, from his first book to his last: The Birth of Tragedy, Beyond Good and Evil, On the Genealogy of Morals, The Case of Wagner, and Ecce Homo.

Both, The Portable Nietzsche and The Basic Writings of Nietzsche, will give you Nietzsche’s early and later philosophical ideas.

  1. Didn’t he lose his mind towards the end of his life? If so, what caused his dementia? Wouldn’t this possibility of losing my mind make me very cautious of the things from the mind of Nietzsche?
